Oelwein Shop Strike Spreads as Breakers Arrive
Strike breakers are imported by the Chicago Western railroad to Oelwein to take the place of striking workers. An injunction from the Federal Court bars interference with the workers or the company property. About 1100 employees are out, the dispute centers on wage increases, and the union does not receive strike benefits. The scene is a local clash with the railroad poised to dictate terms as resolution nears.
