Colleges consider requiring nonrefundable $50 tuition payment
State College presidents proposed a policy to limit applications that avoid deposits by taking the best deal. A $50 nonrefundable tuition payment would be required during admission, possibly applied across state schools, with no final decision yet on implementation. Department officials say state aid must nearly triple by 1962 to fund education for township children, needing about $325 per pupil and total aid of $73 million annually, prompting a recommendation to raise state aid from $23 to $53 million.
