West Clermont Mission Society hosts meeting and gifts
The West Clermont Mission Society met in the church parlors on Wednesday afternoon November 18. Hostesses listed include Mrs Henry Olson and others. The group reported 28 subscriptions to Lutheran Herald and Lutheran erew. They plan Christmas boxes for boys in Uncle Sam's service and a small booklet of meditations. Funds were sent to Luther College for rebuilding, and memory gifts recorded. Several readings and musical items were performed, and society birthday offerings noted. Families attended social events and welcomed guests.

Clermont School News Highlights from a Busy Week
Clermont defeated Randalia 57 to 14 in a girls game and 22 to 18 in the boys. Friday night both Clermont teams beat Montiit with girls 44 to 20 and Monona boys 22 to 20. Thanksgiving schedule includes 9:15 start and post holiday dismissal. New mats for P.E. and a Calisthenics session with Lt. Max Reed from Fort Meade were noted. A Chinese party shared by the sophomore class preceded a showing of My Sister Eileen at the Avalon.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Classes Report Attendance and Work
The six week period ending Nov. 20 shows nine sixth graders and fifteen seventh graders with perfect attendance. Seventh and eighth grade art drew alphabet letters and charts. In current events the class studied News of the Week items and mapped chief wars and Africa’s major countries. The seventh grade social science class studied Petri to the United.

Sailors Train at Winona Naval School Armory
Ramon Swartz, Bai Louis, 11, and Arthur Meier, Winona Minnesota, trainees at the naval school headquarters use a Landis tool grinder. Upon completing the machinist course, sailors are expected to operate main and auxiliary engines, adjust and repair equipment, and become familiar with other ship mechanical parts.

United Service Women Meeting At Clermont Unit No 30
United Service Women met at the home of Mrs. Henry Kittleson on Tuesday evening November 17. The group opened with the pledge and America song, then a prayer. Quilting plans were made as six quilts have been sent and six more are in progress for distributing to service members. Christmas cards and a rummage sale were discussed. Army Drives Christmas Seal Drive Across Iowa
Iowa Tuberculosis Association and allied groups lead a state wide Christmas Seal campaign inviting all Iowans to donate pennies nickels and dimes. Funds support TB exams and free x rays for students in Fayette county high schools and aid ongoing surveillance of contacts with TB.
