Friends recall Daniel Brause born June 23, 1859 in Union Township Fayette County Iowa. He died Thursday at 5 p m at University Hospital Town City after a week of major surgery and bronchial pneumonia. Survived by wife Jennie nee Brackin four children Rudolph Clarence Myrtle Ziegler Phyllis and seven grandchildren. Burial West Union cemetery. Funeral at West Union Methodist with visiting out of town mourners listed. He was active farmer and member of I C O F and Rebekahs.
Mrs Wilhelmine Krueger born October 17 1863 in Lenz Pommern Germany married May 1 1881 to John F Krueger. They sailed to America two weeks after their wedding settling first on a Sumner Iowa farm then Wear Union Elgin and later moving to a South Dakota farm near Madison in 1914. The article notes movements near Elgin and Madison with the Rev Wm Gcliunke referenced.
N H Bekeman and wife recount a Haron Nebraska dust storm experience as their daughter Harriet Stratton describes goose hunting near the Missouri river. The tale recalls driving through drifting sand, losing visibility, veering to safety on a hill, stopping on a highway as rocks struck the car, and the fear of a stalled engine and blocked airways.
The narrator recalls a cold day journey home to Highmore where sand blown by a strong wind blew dirt into homes. A window at Mrs. Chancellor’s house was shattered by a stone, with dust filling rooms and two inches on furniture. The family returned safely at night thanklessly for their safety.
Walter Abendroth proprietor of City Meat Market Nora Springs found dead in his slaughter house with throat cut from ear to ear. Unclear whether death by own action or murder. Newspaper notes mention local business changes and community scraps.
Mr and Mrs Vern Boyer and family and Henry Mller were dinner guests. Make no other date and plan to attend the big family party sponsored by the Elgin Community Club at the Elgin opera house Thanksgiving evening.
