The Elgin Echo of Elgin Iowa is a weekly publication printed Wednesdays by Hermen and Bartunek. It lists postal information and entry as second class mail matter dated September 1 1891 at Elgin Fayette County Iowa under the 1852 act.
The Willing Workers met at Mrs. Cornelius Reierton’s home on November 5 to stitch a quilt. Prizes were won by Mrs. Christine Rypestol, Mrs. Lawrence West, and Mrs. Marvin Staake. Lunch was served, with guests Shelly West and Mrs. Carroll Klingman attending.
The PV Sharpshooters 4-H Club met in the basement of the Elgin Lutheran Church with eight members present as the council elected officers and discussed club plans.
Lane Ash won councilman in a local 4 H gathering. A speech on the 4 H meeting was delivered by Mr Wangsness. Awards recognized 1st year Jett Miller Sharon Metzger Karen Metzger Robert Jacob. 2nd year Eversharp pencils David Metzger Timmy Butikofer. 3rd year finger nail files Reed Gale Kleppe Phillip Sharon Ruckdasher. 4 year photo albums Duane Reeder D Lene Krueger. Jimmy Frieden received his 6th year certificate totaling 11 years in 4 H. Lawrence Gehring attended as Visitor. Next meeting set at Robert Jacob's home on December 11.
Dr and Mrs Arthur Ittermann announce the engagement of their daughter Jocelyn Joy Ittermann of Polk City Florida to Kenneth Stone of Bluefield West Virginia. The couple will exchange vows Saturday December 21 at Camp Gilead Chapel Polk City Florida. Miss Ittermann studied at Tennessee Temple College and Grace Bible Institute and works in surgery at Lakeland General Hospital. Mr Stone a University of Illinois graduate and Columbia Bible College alumnus has served in the U S Army and teaches at Beaver High School Bluefield West Virginia.
The Busy Beavers held a regular meeting with singing led by Kaye Loftagard. After business, a sewing demonstration by Jane Nila and a talk on personal appearance were given. Members made Christmas gifts for mothers. Meadow Sarkettes spoke about the State 4 H Convention. Four new members were announced: Brenda Bilden Marilyn Loftsgard Betty Reerson and Ann Larson.
The Illyria Farm Bureau Homemakers met with 46 members present. The roll call referenced Thanksgiving as the meeting opened with allegiance recited. Harold Strong reviewed the Shaff plan and urged members to vote affirmatively on December ar d healthful living chair noted.
In Fayette County the Farm Bureau Women gathered to discuss election topics and serve dinner for visiting members. An estimated 1862 opinion cards were distributed this year as members read about electoral college basics and red meat topics. The meeting closed with the Farm Bureau Spirit song led by Mrs. Duane Strong, with plans for the next gathering at Mrs. Duane Strong’s home.
Nora Clarissa Olson daughter of Ole J and Emma Bau nd passed away on Wednesday November 13 in Detroit Michigan She graduated Clermont High School attended Town State Teachers College in Cedar Falls then taught at Wilson School near Elgin for three years She later moved to Sioux City trained and began her business career In 1929 she moved to Detroit and joined Annis Fur Co Surviving are sisters Ruth Gibson and Mrs Rex Mulford Moore of Pittsburgh Pa She arranged by Milchintieler Funeral Home in Cedar Falls Services held Saturday at St Paul Methodist Church with Rev Lee Roy Collins Pallbearers listed and interment in Elgin Cemetery We appreciate the many acts of kindness in our bereavement Mr and Mrs HEURe fea con and Rey Ret ulford Mr lorace Moore
Local residents hosted and visited for dinners and lunches across Elgin and nearby, with gatherings including Judy Long in Norfolk and multiple homes in Lawrence Grimm and Schupbach circles. Attendees named include Mr. and Mrs. Byron Murray, Terri, Bertha Lehman, Fanny Frieden, Hulda Sutter, Ron Loftsgard, Glen Nims, Erving Amdahl funeral attendees, and others at the Sutter, Wenger, Ogle, Halverson, Larson, and Landsgard households.
Ole Reierson and neighbors gathered with Mr Jog and Mrs Otto Blockhus as visitors and residents joined events at the Derry David home. Mrs Clara Hellum spent Sunday afternoon with P K Peterson, Merlin Hellum and Roger at Kenneth Hellum’s home. Fanny Frieden hosted guests, Julia and Josie Jenson visited Loftagard and Ida Potter. Ingrid Hellum attended a coffee at Bertina Hal’s. Christian Church dedication and a funeral were noted, with Minnie Boxhous and family visiting Poet Postville. Don’t knock your town. you may have money invested there.
Mrs. Hoger Stealie and Min Marvin Staake celebrated Mrs. Su sie pits St. Olaf turning 89. Vicky Bors hosted a supper Tuesday in the Sel area. An echo Want Ad item lists unwanted items available.
