Charles Wegner a senior at the University of Dubuque has been named to Who's Who among students in American Universities and Colleges. He previously earned Who's Who honors in his junior year and is the son of Mr and Mrs Wagner, Clermont High School graduate.
Pastor Kronickken Toby Kittelson and 23 Luther League members from East and West Clermont churches left Clermont Saturday morning for Luther College Decorah. They toured the campus and attended the Luther Upper Iowa football game.
Mrs Clarence Larson hosted the Woodland Study Club on Tuesday November 8. Members read scripture and sang a Thanksgiving song. Sixteen members proposed Christmas decoration ideas and donated 5.00 to the United Fund. Cookies were planned for Sight Saving School at Winton. Reading included “Great Hummin” and two articles by Mrs Geo V Larson. Mrs Dude Kamp gave the day’s thought. Contests led by Mrs Marion Kirkestue and Mrs Mullard Nelson Jr. winners were Mrs Haymond Schardh, Mrs Clarence Larson, Mrs Art Nelson and Mrs Duane Kamp.

East and West Clermont Lutheran Churches officers and boards met at Decorah Lutheran and Decorah First Lutheran to discuss a merger. The conference aims to complete local merger conventions for the three Lutheran synods forming the American Lutheran Church on January 1, 1961.

Gifts approved for Ephatha and Brazil Missions and a Thanksgiving clothing drive announced.
Mrs Millard Nelson Jr hosted Tre Ore Junior Study Club on November 7 with the Pledge of Allegiance. Reports from secretary and treasurer were read, devotions by Mrs Amundson, roll call on voting reasons, and a program on election issues led by Mrs Seabrooke followed by a club call and Spanish study records.
Fine weather and good food brought about 680 people to the annual West Clermont Lutheran Lutefisk and Turkey supper on Thursday evening, Nov 10. Attendees traveled from Manchester Decorah and Oelwein and nearby towns and farms.
Saturday evening’s jackpot drawing produced a prize for Mrs. Alvin Amundson who was away and did not claim 200 bucks. Leon Hansen also missed the draw for 40 bucks. Next week the top prize rises to 200 bucks if the winner is absent, with an 80 buck second drawing if still away. Community notes cover visitors, hosting, and local events across Clermont including Olson, Appelman, and Nelson households, plus Thanksgiving style overshoes ad.

Lyle Gunderson of Clermont Co op was invited via Ames to join the 1961 Iowa Agricultural Leaders Goodwill People to People Delegation touring Brazil Uruguay Argentina Chile and Peru from Des Moines January 20 to February 13 1961. The trip aims to counter communist propaganda by meeting agricultural leaders workers and government officials in the host countries. The East Clermont Mothers Club held November 8 at church with 15 members and 11 children, renamed East Clermont Mothers Circle, planning duties and a December meeting with toy and recipe contributions.

Mrs John Bakewell Jacquel in and Junana visited Saturday forenoon at Mrs Minnie Backhaus's home in Postville to celebrate her eighty fourth birthday on Sunday.

The Methodist family church supper was held Sunday evening, November 13, at the Masonic temple with 46 present. Chairs were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Robison, and the committee included Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tatro and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Moore. A group of girls sang, accompanied by Mrs. Appelman, and special guest Mrs. Burkard Riegel shared slides from her trip to Germany.
Sunday schedule lists a 4:45 a.m. service at Clermont Methodist Church led by Pastor Donald T. Caspers. Methodist Youth Fellowship meets at St. Pauls in Elgin.
St. Peter's Church led by Pastor Jos A Gullivan offers Masses at 7 and 8 am with confessions Saturday evening at 8 and 9 pm.
The Clermont Lutheran Parish lists midweek services and choir practices at West and East locations with host families and a full week of activities. It includes Sunday services, Sunday school times, family night, church meetings, and advance notices for Thanksgiving Eve service, Advent Sunday musical, and annual meetings in December with treasurer reports due December 1.
Gilbert Nelson staying in West Union for the winter visited relatives and friends Tuesday and was a supper guest of his sister Mrs. Isabel Nelson.
