Alfalfa drive fuels five Fayette meetings
Impetus for more alfalfa in Fayette county came from five meetings led by Alfalfa Hutcheson. He urged spring or summer seeding on well drained ground with limestone to sweeten soil, firm seed beds, hardy seed, good inoculation, and 250 to 300 pounds of phosphate per acre. A yield of 3 to 5 tons per acre was projected, with hay value equating to 68 bushels of oats. About 60 acres are already under alfalfa, with recent demonstrations of lime spreaders and seed bed prep. The talks are part of a banker and County Farm Bureau sponsored series.
