Michael Bartholimi shot his wife in the back then set fire to the house and killed himself. Mrs Bartholimi escaped before the flames consumed the dwelling in Blackstone on October 28.

A gale on Lake Michigan wrecked multiple schooners and vessels with grain and lumber cargoes near Chicago and Michigan City. The Aberdeen, aboard loaded grain from Chicago, and several others were reported adrift or waterlogged. one steamer, the Hy Autile, was a total wreck with crew rescued. Fear centered on the Aberdeen as weather worsened and sightings were uncertain.
A gale last night caused extensive damage to the Taylor dock and other dock facilities in Sheboygan Wisconsin. Losses run to many thousands of dollars with hundreds of feet of dock washed away and several firms suffering damage.
After the president’s reception at the Union League a secret cabinet meeting was held at the Bellevue in Philadelphia. Attending were Postmaster General Smith Secretary of War Alger Secretary of Agriculture Wilson and Solicitor General Richards replacing Attorney General Griggs. J C Kellogg private secretary to Secretary Hay delivered dispatches from the state department. No details were disclosed and no officials could be reached for comment.
