Iowa State College researchers William Kuwerth and William Berkey report UV transmitting glass substitutes insulate better than ordinary window glass. Experiments show old window glass loses more heat than the tested substitutes, suggesting reduced heat escape while transmitting ultraviolet light.
A brief newspaper card noting the Member National Editorial Association publication schedule. It states the paper is published every Thursday by R P Strauch and is entered at the Elgin post office in Payette County Iowa as second class mail matter.
Samuel Banwart, aged 68, died at his West Bend home after a six week illness. Born in Elgin Iowa in 1860 he moved with his family to this area in 1869. He married Elizabeth Zaugg about 42 years ago and leaves a wife four brothers and three sisters. A devoted church member he was baptized in 1895 and remained active in the Apostolic church. Funeral services were held at the Apostolic church with Rev. Mike Miller and Rev. Ph. Lauer presiding, burial at Elgin cemetery beside his wife Matthys.
Died Thursday October 25 at 9 00 a Monat Teaithke of Beart and old age at 91 years 9 months and 19 days two miles west of Elgin at his son Freds home Matthye lived there about seven years born January 6 1837 in Canton Bern Switzerland came to the United States in 1886 settled in Elgin married Caroline Jacobs December 29 1868 They had three children Fred Henry and Frank Arthur an adopted son died April 5 1903 at 16 Survived by daughter-in-law Mrs Frank Matthys and three grandchildren Lola Susie Melvin and many friends in the neighborhood.

Dyas reports phosphate fertilizer speeds crop maturity quality and yield. George Weinberg of Clarksville used 120 pounds per acre of 20 percent superphosphate. Moisture tests on fertilized corn showed 19.2 percent vs 26.8 percent in unfertilized.
