The East Mothers Club met Tuesday afternoon May 17 with Mrs Orvin Olsgn as hostess. Fourteen attended. The meeting opened with a hymn. Discussion covered the chapter A Choice to Manes from the ps. A family picnic was planned.
Vacation Bible School will run from May 31 through June 10 at West Lutheran in the public school building. Eligible children include those entering school this fall up to ninth grade. Teachers include Mrs Theo Gredes, Mrs Arthur Amundson, Mrs Arthur Negon, Mrs Rusee Larson, Mrs Louis Olson, and Miss Andine Wesby across multiple grades.
A chiropractor will open an office in Clermont, with Dr. A. Erickson of Waterloo arranging the move. Mr. Nelson, age, and the Bix family are noted residents. the office is to be housed in a rented room of a local building, signaling a forthcoming move to Clermont.
Mr and Mrs Otto Vasby of Clermont celebrate their 40th anniversary with a Sunday May 20 service at 2 pm in the West Clermont Lutheran church. Jeffrey Marvin spent the previous weekend at the Leo Woods home, with Marvin visiting Robert Woods family.
Mrs Alfred J Olson obituary notes she was baptized at East Clermont church and married in Der. mother of eight, six living, including Leonardia and Joseph who died in service. She belonged to West Clermont Church. funeral at West Clermont Lutheran Church Tuesday May 24 at 2 p.m. Pastor Kronlokken officiated with Mrs Harry Amundson singing.
A family birthday gathering celebrated Mark on May 22 Becky on May 21 and Denise in late June. Mr and Mrs Nelson hosted with many relatives attending a picnic style party at their home. Visitors included Mr and Mrs Will Burrow and others from the community.
Dover No 6 rural school closed its year on Sunday May 22 with an all district picnic at the West Union Fair grounds. Over fifty attended. With Mrs Louis Olson as teacher the enrollment stood at about fifteen upon reopening on August 29 1960 for another year.
In the seventh match this past week Valley Junior High competed in arithmetic problem races, with Anita Dennler finishing first, Jean Schaer second, David Aanes third, and Karen Alderson fourth. A close Tuesday game ended Winneshick 14 to 12, while season stats list L Christen, D Thompson, D Aanes, and L Halvorson with limited at bats and scores.
Clermont residents hosted and attended gatherings for birthdays and confirmations across several families including the Beckers, Ashes, Meys, Traegers, and Lions. Visitors from Rochester Postville Sumner Elgin Decorah and Des Moines joined in celebrations at multiple homes, with Denise remaining for an extended visit and other guests traveling for weekend events.
The Town and Country Club gathered at Mrs. Carman Swenson’s home on May 19 with Galen Mack of Junior High presenting a talk on Youth Fitness. Guests included Mrs. Kenneth Smith of Oelwein, Fayette County Club Chairman. Nearby social visits featured multiple local families hosting or visiting over the weekend and during the week.
Fayette County Feed Service begins a 40 by 60 foot cement block warehouse behind its Clermont office at Union and Mill Streets, on the former Yowa Oil property. The building will store feeds and fertilizer and serve as a distributing point for Nutrend Murphy and VC products, with local labor led by Olson Brothers. Grand opening will be announced when complete.
Miss Marlene Durscher was a supper guest Thursday evening of Marilyn Schaer in Elgin, sharing a casual social visit and conversation.
Mr and Mrs Julian Moe announce the marriage of their daughter Helen Halberg of Minneapolis to William Dele Barth of Minneapolis son of Mr William Barth Sr of Decorah. Both are Luther College alumni. The ceremony will be held Saturday June 4 at 8 p m at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Mrs Julian Moe is the former Ellen Bilden.
The Mission Society met on Wednesday May 18 with hostesses including Mrs. Theo Loftis Gard and others. Bible study covered Mark chapter four, life membership talks occurred, and a memorial gift was noted. Correspondence included a $10 memorial, thank you cards, and plans to send funds to the ALC. A History of the Church was ordered and table prayers closed the gathering.
Fr Jos A Sullivan presides at St Peter's Church with Masses at 7 and 9 AM Confessions scheduled for Saturday evening at 8 00 and 9 00 PM or as noted.
The Clermont Lutheran Parish led by Pastor John D. Krontokken lists events for Ascension Day May 26 at West and East churches. Activities include Bible classes, morning services, a 40th wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Washby, Lather League picnic, council meetings, Priscilla gathering, and Vacation Bible Schools beginning May 30 and 31.
The official board meets Thursday at 8:00 p.m. Worship Sunday at 6:45 a.m. Daily Vacation Bible School begins Tuesday May 31. Pastor Donald T. Caspers presides at church activities and services.
Gospel Message Church led by Pastor Lester Lease invites all to Sunday services at 10:45 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., highlighting welcoming open attendance and community worship.
