A Leopard Tamed by Kindness and Training
The piece recounts how a leopard gifted to German consul Von der Madhern in Berlin grew from a few days old cub into a large, affectionate pet under patient care. Taken to Berlin and later to Baypt, the animal followed its master like a loyal dog, sharing a bed and daily life indoors. The tale argues wildness is partly inherited but can be tempered by proper treatment, ending with the leopard’s death at around sixteen.
