Louisa Peeper Baldwin born in Germany August 20 1837 departed this life May 11 1897 aged 79 years 3 months 2 days She came to America in 1848 with her parents and three brothers settling in Winnebago county Illinois Here she lived and joined Lutheran then Evangelical church at about eighteen converted April 3 1857 married A S Baldwin moved to Fayette County Iowa and Benton County Iowa later joining United Brethren church She was upright and beloved Her husband died June 30 1888 She leaves three sons J B Baldwin Washington state F M Baldwin Hazelton Iowa and G W Baldwin Iowa two grandsons and two granddaughters two brothers Henry Peeper and Frank Baldwin Suva neighbors mourn the death Funeral at Tilyria church conducted by Rev J S Moore Interment in churchyard The family thanks friends for aid and flowers.

Disappointed Clermont youths led a local effort to raise a Fayette county cavalry unit. A War Department telegram ordered stopping all cavalry recruiting after eighty five signatures had been collected, leaving twenty potential signers still in sight.
