Seed Sudan Grass For Summer Pasture In Dry Months
County Agent Paul McElroy recommends seeding Sudan grass for temporary pasture on farms with scarce regular pasture or likely summer drought. Sudan grass yields lush grazing in hot dry weather when bluegrass is gone, with 10 to 15 pounds per acre, drill or broadcast seeding, no lime needed on acid soil, and stock should enter after the crop reaches 8 to 10 inches. It tolerates overgrazing once well established.
