General Assembly Ends After Days of Partisan Friction
The 46th General Assembly closed amid confusion and bickering after a long session. About 6,000 oil station managers marched on Des Moines protesting the chain store tax, fearing oil companies would pull out. A beer law revision and NRA compliance bills lingered in deadlock as investigations and resignations floated through the capitol. The liquor committee report left the liquor question murky, with one minority note and a resignation.
