Clermont area residents gather for dinners and social visits with families across Ossian Decorah Waterloo and West Union. Visitors travel to Minneapolis Chicago and Decorah. church events and P T A district meetings noted along with occasional trips to hospital and graduations.
A guide advises feeding grain to heavily producing cows, killing weeds early to boost soybean yields, and preparing seed beds. It recommends selecting the best variety, shallow cultivation before seeding, harrowing after planting to break crust and control weeds, and roughing up beans after emergence with fast harrowings or weeders to reduce later cultivations.
Clermont elder Victor Pringle died at home April 27 1848 aged 77 years 2 months after a long Clermont life. He married Anna Hendershott on December 17 1892 and had three children who died in infancy. A farmer and railroad worker he later ran a restaurant for 45 years and served as Clermont mayor for four years. Surviving are a daughter Sadie and four sons, numerous grandchildren and relatives. Funeral was at the Masonic Temple Clermont with Rev Bruce D Jones and Bro Ray Douglas. burial in Clermont cemetery.
