Prominent Dr Becker Elected Mayor and Local News Roundup
Dr Becker of Clermont, a famed homoeopathic physician, has been elected mayor as town efforts to straighten up the community are noted. Echo reports widespread recognition. The Whist Club meets with Mr and Mrs Fred Gehring Friday. Mrs Schultz of Charles City left after a pleasant visit with her brother Nick Sehori and family. F M Beil visited with John Christ Sr daughter for a week then departed north. The school board elected J H Williams principal Lizzie B Lyons Jennie Anderson Anna Baldwin for the term, retaining last year’s corps. Frances Skarshaug is ill at Caroline Bauder’s Center Street home. Thomas Bros sold about 460 dozen eggs Saturday earning $70. Philip Mazer, working at Durscher’s portable saw mill, injured his left middle finger while freeing a splinter. A wolf’s den was found by Franc DeSart while walking through the woods. he hopes to shoot the old wolf soon.

Mrs Selmer Holm and Betty Elaine and Helen Reinhart visited in Arthur on son home last Thursday afternoon. Several households hosted visitors Sunday and weekend dinners including the Osmundsons, the Landsgards, and the Reinharts. Harold Turner the census man has been busy in the vicinity, and Olvia Amundson will work this summer at Clarence Olson’s. Mrs Gunderson remains ill and bedridden under a family physician.

Bigmlows April 21 1834 town council in special session at town hall approved beer permits for Wm F Miller H O Heston and Charles Wenger after bond and $1000 fees were reviewed. Council also accepted plan for water tank and tower repairs with WaTer Tower Paint and Repair Co of La Porte City invited to submit contract. adjournment followed.
