Peddler License Tax and Rail Tone From Far Northwest
A Des Moines Capital summary reports the senate's Bruce bill imposing transient peddler taxes of 25 dollars for foot sellers, 50 for one horse, and 75 for a team, with an unsuccessful effort to drop to 10. The piece notes a supreme court reversal on liquor liability, railroads cutting trains ahead of a two cent fare law, and lists city donations for the San Francisco earthquake relief from Iowa towns, ending with a rhetorical question about a street lamp.
