Mather’s general merchandise store Willan Plummer’s and J M Cubbison’s drug store and others with total losses around 22 000 to 30 000 with insurance and suspected arson. Nearly all planned to rebuild.
At a Union League reception in Minneapolis on April 27 Senator Washburn thanked the party for decades of service and announced his retirement from the Senate. Speakers included ex-Gov. In Sioux Falls South Dakota on April 27 Hans Valgren a six year old was found dead by suicide northeast of the city. The child aided by his nephew H P Valgren had helped herd cattle that strayed from the nephew’s holdings. After a violent episode the elder man tied a rope around his neck while standing on a wooden block and kicked it away, dying before discovery.
Secretary Morton, in Good Forme Washington, April 25, expressed amusement at sensational Eastern stories about a rift with the president over his money question interview. He declared he is never better friends with the president and dismissed any liaison with the denial.
Bunco suspect Emil Behr, 21, arrested in Milwaukee on a bunco charge. Police found a bag of counterfeit notes and dozens of printed scrips detailing a major counterfeiting ring flooding the country with counterfeit money. Behr also faced a second offense warrant and claimed exposure to New York forgery rings.

Excitement gripped Arcadia Wisconsin as a candle found burning in George Littlefield’s barn stood upright and burned to within an inch of the inflammable substance. Suspicion falls on unidentified persons with no arrests yet.

London April 24 news that Speaker Rt Hon Arthur Wellsley Peel has been created Viscount in recognition of service. The announcement names Peel as Viscount Peel of London with peerage elevation effective immediately.
