German Engebretson born February 11 1842 in Nomedal Norway died March 23 1932 in Elgin Iowa at his daughter Mrs Geo Schori home aged ninety years one month twelve days. He emigrated to America in 1868 settling in Clayton county then moved to Elgin where he ran a general merchandise store. Survived by two daughters, one sister, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral at St Pauls M E Elgin conducted by Rev J J Snyder. Burial in Elgin cemetery.
Fred Reusser born February 10 1856 in Steffisburg Switzerland died March 26 1982 at age 76. He came to Elgin August 31 1883 worked on a farm west of town then moved to Elgin December 1923. He married Emma Abbey May 3 1888 and had six children Fred Lydia Walter Marie John and Elmer. All children except Elmer pursued teaching and held notable posts. He was known as friendly and peaceful with many friends.
Our brother was converted here and baptized by Rev. Wm Schunke in 1884. He was a faithful church member and our oldest Sunday school scholar. He leaves a widow, five children, four grandchildren, and many relatives. Funeral held Tuesday afternoon March 29 with Rev. Ph Lauer officiating. A quintette sang four hymns with Freddie Lauer at the organ. Our brother went before and we follow.
Franklin Pierce Martin born March 10 1852 in Juniatta county Pennsylvania and son of Christian and Catherine Martin. He lived in Fayette county Iowa since boyhood and died March 26 1932 at his daughter’s home in Elgin aged eighty years and fifteen days. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Elgin Baptist church with Rev Ph Lauer officiating and church singers led by Mr Keiser.
Halvor Torkelson died in his bed at his sister Hat tie Torkelson's home Saturday morning March 19. He was born March 24, 1864 and would have been 68. He married Hannah Benson in 1892 and lived on the Highland farm. three daughters survive with the widow Hannah and one sister Hattie. He was a charter member of Highland Lutheran Church and a respected neighbor. Funeral services were held March 21 at home and church with Rev. G Gunsten officiating.
The cemetery adjacent church held a funeral with pallbearers listed as neighbors and friends including Andrew Cook Halvor Wikan E Gunderson Albert Larson Chris Larson and C H Larson. The fragment notes the solemn procession and community ties in a small town setting.

Lou Dennlar and children visited John Nydegger’s. Mrs Harry Gilson called on H T Knudtson and John Baldwin. Mrs John Howard spent a day with George Howard. George Boyle family visited Frank Lyons. Clifton Powell called on Ben Brabham. Harry Gilson and Wayne dined with Donald Gilson, the meal honoring Mrs Frederick's birthday. Albert Albright and Mel Richie of Oelwein stayed with John Baldwin to see ill Mr Baldwin.
