An advertisement for The Bast Cough Cure in Shiloh's Cire touts a neglected cough remedy. It cautions danger and urges immediate use of Shilot's Cure-For-Sure by W H Finke.
Landlord Sliter of Waukon reports a hotel misdeed by Anderson and his wife, saying $300 to $400 vanished, cash taken during a March 17 turnover. He claims the couple, aided by Sliter’s own management, left town toward Postville with Charley taking a new cook job in Sycamore Indiana.
Elgin man Fred Bitsberger, long separated from his Swiss wife, faced a sudden tragedy when he learned through a letter from his hometown mayor that she died of lung fever. He had planned to bring her home this week after moving to work for Wm. E. Fuller. The community offers condolences for his deep sorrow.
In Decorah area farmhand Torkel Oelson shot at Ed Bakke in his bedroom after entering the Bakke home. The bullet grazed Ed’s head and lodged in his arm. Oelson fled but was captured, jailed in Decorah, awaiting trial for assault with intent to commit murder. He had liquor on him and travel tickets to Norway.
Three strangers stole about $1,000 from State Savings Bank of Galt after blowing the safe with tools bought in town. Postmaster lost roughly $124 in stamps. The trio, seen in a store earlier, were later found in a nearby schoolhouse with a burglary pattern linking the two blasts heard around 9:15. A local family resided within forty miles of the event scene.
A robbery at a local shop used nitro glycerine to wreck the safe. The proprietor found the wreckage around noon on Monday. The bandits fled with the safekeeping and were pursued by Sheriff Bradfield of Wright County after the explosions near Clarion.
