Local notes and tips from Ossian and West Union
Walter Jennings visits Ossian while Clara and Nelle Nelson stay with West Union friends on Wednesday. The piece notes rising prices and thrift, jokes about cleaning up before the mayor demands it, and mentions gasoline at Finke's drug store. It cites a Philadelphia strike costing $30,000 a day and a quarantined Iowa state college for the blind at Vinton with seven diphtheria cases. It also notes fishing in Turkey River improving as water clears and warms, with a light jab about lazy boys missing out.
