Echo reports new owner Joan aims to expand in roofing and painting, backed by a 15 year plan. Lumber dealers say this will drive solid activity in roof and paint lines as government requires updated standards.
Hawkeye town council voted to discontinue issuing free meal tickets to tramps for the warmer months. Clerk H F Hauth said the move fits economizing aims and the weather will push hobos toward work or elsewhere for meals. The Hawkeye Beacon notes charity remains, but persistent beggars will get no free tickets during warm weather.
The Monroe County News reports New Deal aid reaching Iowa with 134000.100 in U S cash and a total relief outlay around 100 million. Corn loans claim 45000400 as the largest recovery project while farm mortgages receive 42958800. Farmers dominate relief benefits in the program.
G W Everett and his assistant Baschnagel today distributed another 10 percent dividend at the closed State Bank of West Union. This marks the third 10 percent payout to depositors of the bank. The administration’s aid to farm Ivan and others aided bank collections statewide, hinting at a possible next dividend. Mr and Mrs George Vaughn visited Arlington, and Monona rural mail routes will be consolidated from May 1, creating two routes each slightly over forty miles.
Mr and Mrs LB Carter along with Bart Kiple and others attended Fayette county Legion Post and Auxiliaries joint meeting in Fayette Thursday evening marking the fifteenth anniversary of the American Legion.
