Clermont man William Haas dies in high tension line accident
William Haas, a Clermont resident and trusted local businessman, was killed while repairing a 13,260 volt high tension wire two miles west of Hawkeye. Haas and fellow worker Fred Boeckenheuer were on the Sumner line when Haas touched a live conductor after failing to switch off a transformer. Despite prompt medical aid and rapid transport, Haas died of the electric shock. He was 45, married to Mary Miller, with two children, Herbert and Anna Mae. He served Clermont on the city council and school board, and was a key figure in local electrical development with C. Miller & Sons and the Northeastern Iowa Power Co. Funeral services are set for Friday at the Clermont Lutheran church.
