Program Modified to Encourage Soybeans Farmers

The 1966 Feed Grain Program lets farmers plant soybeans on feed grain acreage and still qualify for price support payments and diversion payments. Soybeans cannot be planted on diverted acres, and at least 20 percent of feed grain base must be diverted. To qualify for full payments, at least 90 percent of permitted acres must be planted to feed grains or soybeans. Reasons include balancing workload, reducing risk with multiple crops, and increasing income where conditions favor soybeans.
