Congressional antitrust report warns against monopolies and regulation
A five member House subcommittee led by Kefauver reports that free enterprise is endangered by monopoly and government failure to enforce anti trust laws. It argues national policy must curb economic concentration, with public works spending dwarfing anti trust programs and calls for statutory limits on business size. It stresses small business and farmer impacts and urges strong anti trust action.

Legislature Reconvenes With Key Bills Facing 1947 Session
The Iowa legislature reconvenes facing alcohol, education, tax and reapportionment bills plus talks on a World War II bonus. A major item is the dry beer measure letting cities opt to issue beer permits. House and Senate will also tackle appropriations, school code, and local option liquor as recess ends. Superintendent Parker announced a upward revision in school funding requests to 18,087,600 annually, driven by inflation and higher land tax credits, with distributions for daily attendance, equalization aid, agriculture credits, transportation, and handicapped aid. The governor’s stance on the 50 percent income tax rate, extending payments for 1947 and 1948, is explained, with the rate advancing to full 100 percent later.
