Snow shoveling count hits twenty seven times
A local man tracked shoveling efforts for a neighbor away in the south and tallying twenty seven shovels. The note reflects the heavy snow winter reported by the Independence Bulletin Journal. Walter Hanson hosted Edwin Krueger and Will Van Sickle. A fatal windmill fall near Hawkeye injured and killed Will Van Sickle, 65. He dropped sixty feet onto a frozen crust. Dr W E Walsh arrived promptly but he died about an hour later. The accident followed repairs to the windmill tower.
