Steps to streamline state milk inspection in Iowa

A 1930s to 1950s trend shows dairies shrinking from about a thousand to 101 milk plants today. A dairy committee urged the Iowa Agriculture Department to streamline milk inspection by contracting private sanitarians and hiring a dairy products scientist to standardize operations across the industry. The move follows personnel shifts and ongoing interagency overlap. A separate note announces Michael Doyle seeking the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State, while General Needles warns that starting March 15 the highway patrol will issue summonses for unregistered 1968 license plates, with county attorneys alerted to inform sheriffs and police. Economists Jerald Barnard and Wilbur Maki say agriculture remains Iowa’s base, with off-farm farming-related jobs stable amid an overall decline in farming.
