Seed corn issues rise in Fayette County tests

Fayette County farmers report low actual seed germination from saved corn as ear tests reveal only 40 to 60 percent viability. County Agent Clyde H. Combs notes 892 bushels of surplus seed and 1,760 bushels needed by buyers, with 5,000 bushels of 198 corn and new corn in cribs offering possible seed. War-time aims push 100 percent testing, warning that better testing saves stands and costs.
