Mr and Mrs Warner Whitford celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Monday February 27 at their Fayette home. The News and Volga City friends extend congratulations to the couple on this memorable occasion.
A crowded Elgin Iowa classified section lists farm stock including eighty one head of hogs and gilts bred to Duroc Jersey and Berkshire boars from the Dean C. F. Curtis herd. Also offered are an extra good heifer calf four days old, a stack of five tons of mixed hay at twelve dollars per ton, a nearly new Rock Island wagon, and carloads of International dairy feed arriving around March. The Elgin Iowa town council held a special session at the Town Hall on February 24 1928 to consider boulevard lighting. Mayor Muehlethaler and six councilmen plus Community Club representatives heard Central States Electric Co manager Mr Tegtmeter outline a plan needing about 24 light poles 2200 feet of cable with work to be coordinated with company headquarters for a future update.
Thos Richards of West Union and former Illyria farmer died Saturday after a two week illness from a stroke. He was buried Monday in the Illyria cemetery near his old home. Mrs. Anna DeSart has been sick but is improving. Jack Allen and Arthur brought Mrs. Allen and the children home from Waterloo after a visit. Swim Girl Swim shown at Elgin Opera House March 4 and 5.
