Field Wide Open for GOP Senate Nomination
The GOP Senate race remains undetermined as delegates at the state convention may pick any candidate. Despite six primary contenders not reaching 35 percent, Attorney General Norman A. Erbe ruled the nomination is open beyond the six names. County precedents exist, but this is the first state level question. Miller led the primary with about 30 percent. Countryman won 68 counties. Delegates total 1,506 for 56 counties versus 1,135 for 33 counties Miller carried. Countryman would need 109 more votes to clinch if all counties align, unlikely given expected vote splits.
