The Great Auk Egg Sells for Record Sum
A London auction saw a single great auk egg sell for 1222 dollars, one of only about sixty five known to exist. The auk, now believed extinct, laid its egg on a sea cliff near Seagon, its wings small and flightless nature making land nesting impossible. A 1921 Hebrides sighting near St. Kilda described a three foot bird hauled aboard a yacht after capture, diving rapidly underwater with wing-like paddling. its leg rope eventually broke and the last of its noble line vanished.

A seaman from Cape Cod to Newfoundland criticized the laws, arguing fishermen should hunt lobsters freely as the species seems doomed.

Time and Fisherman's Way
Ten years ago the Japanese crown prince, then thirteen, spent a summer at Futamiguara Ise where he befriended a fisherman's boy named Yai. On a wedding tour the prince sought his old friend and, after effort, arranged to see Yei now grown but poor. The tale centers on their rekindled bond and a journey with Nes laden with ores.
