Sales Tax Main Issue For Fall Election
The Iowa political scene centers on the sales tax as a key fall election issue. William Murray backs a three percent tax and a state withholding tax, while Herschel Loveless defends the current two percent rate. Debate also covers higher education funding and campaign costs. The survey of nearly 1,000 businessmen shows support for increased sales tax for school aid and opposition to an income withholding tax, with a majority favoring the current right to work law.
