Iowa Population Gain and Democratic Convention Report
Iowa's population rose by about 117000, likely shifting House seats from eight to seven as growth trails states like Arizona, Florida, and California. Final census figures due in fall may show a small uptick from preliminary counts. The Iowa Democratic convention named a pro Kennedy delegation for Los Angeles, with 88 supporting Kennedy, seven backing Symington, two for Stevenson, and seven uncommitted. Delegates instructed a unanimous first ballot for Governor Loveless as preferred president. Loveless highlighted world peace and price-raising plank as key election issues.
