Saving hides and skins and leather preparation tips
Saving hides requires curing in warm weather after cleaning. Salt is needed at one pound per pound of hide, rubbed into all parts including edges and heavy portions. Hides salt firm in 12 to 18 days, sheep cool slower. do not wear until 8 to 10 hours after removal from carcass. Sheep and lamb skins should be salted and sold within six days if storage is limited.
