Community Club Notes July Meeting at Legion Hall

The Community Club met July 1 at the Legion hall. Supper was served by the Auxiliary. Discussion focused on the Homecoming plan. Jack Hilversen reported on progress for the event and on a July 18 meeting with the Clayton County Engineer and Supervisors at El kader regarding surfacing 3.4 miles of road from the county line four corner to the Jim Olson corner. The Engineer described hard surface road plans based on vehicle counts, noting about 375 to 400 daily on three roads, and about 140 miles at ~200 vehicles daily elsewhere. The four corner East to County road P route falls in the latter group. He added the county can levy about twelve mills for roads, with 1965 figures showing roughly $362,000 in revenues and $200,000 for payroll, leaving about $162,000 for road work and maintenance. A new law redirecting gas tax money to urban areas will reduce Clayton County gas tax receipts by about $52,000, delaying road work.
