Fumigate to Control Weevil in Stored Grain

Iowa State College entomologists advise fumigation to control weevil in stored grain when temperatures rise. Look for small dark bugs or white worms two feet below the surface. if temperatures exceed 90 F, treat. A fumigant mix of ethylene dichloride and carbon tetrachloride is recommended, or carbon tetrachloride alone. Treated grain can be fed after 48 hours. Carbon tetrachloride lowers grain temperature but does not dry wet grain. moisture above 13 percent can cause heating even without weevils.
