Assault on Wilkes Williams at Grand Meadow Farm
Wilkes Williams was attacked late Saturday night at Grand Meadow farm six miles east of Clermont. He lies in critical condition with skull fractures after a blow from a small hammer, a fire set in the room, and blood trails indicating attempts to call for help. Sheriff's investigators and Pinkerton agents worked the scene, but few clues remained as Williams, a 65 year old one armed man, gradually showed tenacity as doctors operated to remove bone fragments from his brain. Thursday morning his condition improved slightly and there is cautious hope for survival.
