Leslie Pulfer formerly of Elgin has been elected commander of the American Legion post in Pekin Illinois for the coming year. Membership is over 500 members.
Four students from Elgin will join the five week Luther College summer session in Decorah to run from July through August ending August 17. The group includes Richard Amundson and Kathleen Amundson Svebakken both children of the Amundsons and Diana Bilden and Sandra Bilden daughters of the Bildens. Diana is a junior mathematics major and Sandra is a senior English major while Richard is a sophomore and Kathleen a senior sociology major.
A neighborhood picnic in the Seitz yard honored Mr. and Mrs. Roger Frieden and son Scott as they move from the Lembke apartment to the Perry Larson house. Attendees included the Chapman family, Elmer Lembke family, Judy and Wanda, Richard Frieden and girls, and the Halverson and Seitz families.
Mr and Mrs Harold Oid hosted the annual Christianson-Opsand reunion at their home on Sunday July 21 Attendees included numerous Christianson and Seely families from Wisconsin Illinois and Iowa The event followed a picnic dinner with slides from a trip to Norway Afterward obituary notes for Mrs Rob bins and funeral details were recorded with thanks to the community and church mourners
Mrs Magdelana Kathrine Robbins daughter of Fred and Susan Bigler was born March 26 1876 in Traer Iowa and died July 20 1962 at 88. She attended Clermont schools and taught in Tillyria township Jackson Junction and near Fayette. She married Hervey Francis Robbins on January 1 1906 and had five children including Flossie and Mrs Thomas Ogle Wad.
The regular monthly Elgin Lutheran Church Women gathering met in the fellowship hall on July 18 with hostesses Mrs. Derry Leonhart, Francis Butikofer, Herbert Blockhus, John Butikofer, Philman Larson, and Gerald Blockhus. Ushers were Mrs. Dale Seitz and Mrs. Eugene Lehman. Mrs. Lyle Martin played. Devotions from Salm 105 were led by Pastor Fjelstul. Bible study The Nature of the Church was presented by Mrs. Marjorie Reed. The worship included the song Sun of My Soul and offerings. Belva Snyder reported on publications and reviewed three new library books, starting with Lights From Heaven.

Arthur Emil Meisner born July 9 1909 in Clayton County Iowa died July 12 1983 at his brother Harold Meisner’s home Elkader Iowa Funeral services were held July 15 at the funeral home with Rev Alvin Volfe officiating Burial was in East Side cemetery He lived in Clayton and Fayette counties working as a blacksmith carpenter and farmer He attended Peace United Church of Christ Elkader and was survived by Francis Robert West Russell Meisner Larry Meisner Ronnie Meisner and Ivan Meisner plus his parents William and Louisa Hofer Meisner and his brother Harold Meisner
