Old Landmark Disappears Elgin Livery Barn Falls Prey to Time
The Elgin Livery Barn at Main and Clermont streets, a 36 year landmark, has been torn down by Ernest Lerch and crew. The last structure on the site was built 86 years ago after the previous building burned on July 4 1891 during Elgin’s holiday celebrations. The barn housed about 28 horses at the time and характер losses occurred when owners released stock to flee the fire. The property is owned by A M Weibel who plans a home on the site, though the demolition ends any immediate plans.
