The Elgin Echo Dial is published in Elgin Iowa Payette County as a second class mail matter since September 1 1891 under the act of March 3 1852.
In 1925 Echo files note Elgin Canning Co began bean packing with expectations to continue until mid August. Capper Hatchery expands by leasing Postville building and adding a 25 foot addition to the Elgin plant. Local youths tour and cattle barn shifts cited amid high winds. M. Green and Nick Rennison returned home Sunday from Rochelle 21 where they had been employed during the pea scanning season. Another Fayette county post office fight was settled last week as Gus Hackmann was appointed Clermont postmaster.
Elgin Iowa July 3 1950 town council met at 8 00 p m with mayor and all councilmen present. Minutes of prior meetings approved. Bills approved in several funds including salaries, taxes, toll calls and light charges. John W Gilson license to sell fish granted after motion. Budget estimate reviewed and hearing set for July 24 1950.

Families hosted picnics for guests from Maiden Rock and New Hampton. Local estate sale at Carl Blockhus concluded with a sale for every article.
Mr and Mrs Fred Lauer of Benton Harbor hosted a small gathering at their home. Maynie Boyle of West Union visited George Boyle. The Frank Stansbury family of Sioux City hosted upper guests at their Howard home. Emory Burden and Mrs Mary Skarshaug were among those noted in local social circles with varying visits and illnesses. Lena Hunsberger remained ill, confined to bed, with a slow recovery.
Bonnie Kerr and her parents traveled to Madison to visit Mr and Mrs Bernard Kerr of Elgin. They were hosted at a Sunday dinner by Mrs Chas Feller along with Jim Muncie Florence and John Muncie, extending weekend gatherings.
