The Elgin Canning Co. begins today with the 1926 bean pack, third year canning this vegetable. Winds dry and hot threaten crops, with rain hoped for soon. Haying accident injures Will Frieden, limbs broken and bruised. Pfister couple welcome a 712 pound boy. Four Elgin men set a new distance record traveling over 600 miles that day. Roy DeSart reports ten silver foxes plus police dogs. John Grimm buys Wm. Sutter’s interest, becoming sole owner of the implement business. Geo. Vaughn works on the Dittmer garage brickwork. Elgin youths enjoy Turkey river. Cooks plan a month Western camping trip. Boies Capper of Postville visits as Allamakee hatchery completes year’s run.
Mr and Mrs S C Blockhus of Blooming Prairie Minnesota return home Monday after visiting relatives and the East Clermont church centennial. Gerald Anderson left Monday for Washington DC after visiting the C B Schori home. Mrs Angerson stayed for a longer visit. Mrs Frieda Etter and Dorothy with Louis Dennler and Irvin Etter party from Janesville Wisconsin spent Thursday with Susan King at Fayette. Wm Schlee and Roland Gruver families visited Hawkeye for a picnic with Paul Adrian family. A Vegell of Chicago expected Tuesday at Herbert Haas home for a two month vacation trip west and to Canada. they sold their Chicago home and will seek a new home on Chicago's outskirts.

Pvt Vernon Wede rotating from Fort Riley to Fort Lawton with 14 day furlough. Pvt Leo Weading returning to Fort Hood. Pvt Glen N Odegard back at Camp Carson after furlough with his mother present. Pvt Clifton D Kittelson stationed at Fort Lee Virginia under Corps G and 2nd Platoon. A H Buddy Brackin home on thirty day Navy leave from San Diego toward San Francisco with carrier duty and prior Guam Pearl Harbor service.
Mr and Mrs Roy Steele of Oelwein Mrs Carrie Steele and John McMillan hosted guests including Mr and Mrs Floyd Harvey of Castalia and Mr and Mrs Harry Harvey of Decorah Sunday. Several visitors traveled to Cedar Rapids to see Rose McMillan, with her improving condition noted. Families from Town City Aplington Randalia Fayette and Waterloo dropped by Lew Gruver’s home for a two week visit with Elmer Gruver and daughters in Chambersburg and Marshalltown nearby.
Leola Hicks daughter of Mr and Mrs Giles Hicks and William Lerch were married at the bride’s parents home with immediate family present. The couple will live in Elgin where Lerch works for Torkelton Motor Co. A shower dance followed the ceremony and a trip to Minnesota was planned. Nearby social visits and gatherings are recorded through the week with multiple relatives listed.
