Gov Hughes urges farm disposals to boost local tax rolls
Gov Harold Hughes proposed disposing of a substantial portion of state owned farm lands totaling over 12 000 acres with a value exceeding 2 million dollars. Preliminary comptroller figures indicate agriculture losses may run to hundreds of thousands yearly, while returning land to county tax rolls could yield over 50 000 annually. Board members noted most farms operate at a loss, while a few show profits between 5 000 and 28 000 yearly.
