Iowa Republicans settle convention names and race for committeeman
After the March 31 state convention the Republicans renominated Spangler and Martha McClure with Frank Comfort, a Des Moines attorney, facing several challengers for the national committeeman post. Other potential candidates include Walter Bease, Paul Huston, W. S. Jacobsen, G. G. Jeck, Walter Mahoney, and others. No opposition yet to Mrs. Dennis Kelleher for committeewoman. Democrats will nominate their officials at a Chicago caucus before the convention. The School Code Commission reported 20 bills in preparation for the 1945 legislature to revise old Iowa school laws. Senator G. W. Hunt chaired, with Keir, Daoud, Douds, McCombs, Moyle, Peterson, and Sayre on the panel. The aim is careful study before the session rather than last-minute rush.
