The Elgin Echo announces its entry as second class mail matter on September 1, 1891, at the Elgin post office in Fayette County Iowa under the 1852 act.
Miss Gertrude Wheaton and Harold N. Stoehr wed in Dubuque on July 2 and will reside in Cedar Rapids. Lois Bailey married Charles Habeger at the bride's mother's home in West Union. Mrs. Fred Gehring injured in a July 4 fall from shack stairs, nose broken and facial injuries. Norma Larrabee visiting in West Union injured lightly in a stair fall. Norma Dean also injured lightly in a fall at home.
Elgin State Bank in Fayette County Iowa files its June 28 1946 condition report listing total resources of 1 581 368 62 and total deposits of 1 501 299 94. The report notes cash and due from banks government securities loans and other assets with total liabilities and capital 1 581 368 52. Officials Ernest Schori president and B J Baumgartner cashier swear the accuracy before notary Edna Hunsberger on July 3 1946. Directors G J Mosby Fred C Muehlethaler Max Thoma attest.
Elgin town council met in regular session at the town hall. Bills were audited and allowed including labor for Sheldon Kohls and Jack Adrian, salaries for W. P. Kohls and R. E. Kohler, and supplies from ONeill Drug and P. J. Andersen. John W. Gilson license to sell fish on the streets granted for $10.00. Budget hearing date set for July 23, 1946. Adjournment.
