The Elgin Echo Dial issue records second class mail entry on September 1, 1891 at the Elgin post office in Fayette County Iowa under the act of March 3 2852. Published every Wednesday by Bermen and Bartunek.
The annual Gilbertson reunion held Sunday July 7 at Phelps park Decorah featured a short business meeting led by president Clifford Kittleson. Officers elected for the year include Harry Helgerson president Mrs Don Martindale secretary and Mrs Helen Blockhus historian. Attendees included Amundson and Kittleson families from Clermont Postville Decorah Rochester Minn Hopkins Minn Lanesboro Minn and Elgin with lunches served in the Clifford Kittleson home afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Robert Wilson and Mr and Mrs Emmett Light led the Jr MYF to freshman camp at Clear Lake with Linda Collins Janice Friederich Gayle Light JoAnn Wilson Randy Alderson Wadena Linda Alderson and Cler Monticello. The Rev Lee Roy Collins guided the Sr MYF to Pictured Rocks Monticello on Monday with attendees Lynette Schori Connie Baumgartner Karla Kohler Keith Collins and Harold Shepard.
John R Learn born September 11 1876 in Fayette county Iowa died at his daughter Mabel Overhouse Dubuque aged 86 years He married Myrtle Conner February 23 1911. three children Dorothy died in infancy Mabel Overhouse Dubuque Marjorie Merrill Olson Ler He was preceded in death by his wife one daughter three sisters and two brothers Surviving are two daughters two sisters Nettie Rubens Lime Springs Leona Miller Lime Springs three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Funeral services conducted by Pastor Jerry Mathre Marion Lutheran Church on Saturday. Mrs Jerry Mathre sang with Corrine Rypestor Casket bearers Jack Adrian Roland Gruver Sam Howard Paul Kuhens Lyle Kuhens Carl Kuhens Interment Elgin cemetery Card of thanks expressed for sympathy during bereavement.
A community gathering included gratitude to Pastor Mathre for his kind words and appreciation to Mrs. Mathre Corrine Rypestor and Mabel Overhouse with family and Merrill Olson.
Mary Keiser born December 12 1863 in Canton Bern Switzerland came to America as a child and settled in Elgin. She married Hans Keiser in 1894 and had three children. Survived by daughter Edith and son Dr Harry Keiser five grandchildren eight great grandchildren and many friends. Memorial services held July 9 at First Baptist Church Elgin. Muehlethaler Funeral Home in charge.
A birthday party was held Friday evening July 5 to honor Gilbert Anderson and John Kittelson born July 5 and Linda Kittelson born July 8. Attendees included Clarence Kittelson family James Anderson and family Jerry Nancy, Gilbert Andersons, Clermont, Paul Miene and family, Postville, Earl Kloster and West Union residents.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles O Neill hosted Debra Gisleson with Lanna and Mary Joe Heins at their Elgin cabin for a birthday party. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Maybew and Sumner visited Dale Jensen and Dwayne Medberry in Rockford Ill. JoAnn and Arthur stayed a week with the Guy Gould and Walter Medberry households. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Moore joined Mrs. Johnson for a Saturday birthday coffee in Elkader.

Events include weddings, leadership institute attendance, district Eastern Star meeting, and dedication of a Lutheran Bible camp with multiple households hosting extended relatives and guests over several days.
