Elgin residents hosted dinners and visits with relatives from Oelwein West Union and Elkader. Families from Racine Chicago Iowa City and Waterloo traveled nearby for visits and summer plans. Several moved, packed, or prepared to relocate while others planned trips to Patze’s beauty school and area events.
Paul F. Zoschke, Pastor, conducts Sunday worship at 10 o clock and Sunday school at 11. Annual business meeting with officer elections at 2 p.m. Wednesday July 10. Ladies Missionary Society meets at 2 p.m. Hostesses Mrs. Emma Reusser and Mrs. Herman Scheel. Prayer services at 8 p.m. and choir rehearsal at 9 p.m. Wednesday July 10.
J J Snyder minister leads Sunday school at 10 15 a m followed by church worship at 11 15 a m Grace Foxwell and Piani appear in the program as part of the service planning and parish activities.
St Pauls M E Church announces morning worship at 10 o clock. Ethel L Rennison of Elgin is featured in the July Boody Bible Institute issue from Chicago with a poem God Changes Not. Numerous local visits and family visits are listed, including Birds in Iowa City, Boyle at West Union hospital, McMillan tonsil surgery in Decorah, and travel to Fayette Alta Vista and Albert Lea for reunions and family time.
Old age pension holders cannot be forced to repay relief agencies from their pension checks. A. L. Urick of the old age assistance commission said pensions are inalienable, though pensions can become a lien on the recipient’s property. Relief payments carry similar rules, and the commission notes many formerly on relief have moved off relief rolls as fewer rely on aid.
The Elgin town council in Fayette County Iowa schedules a budget hearing for July 15, 1995 at 100 PM at Town Hall. Taxpayers may speak for or against the proposed expenditures. George Vaughn left for Chicago for work. Various residents visited relatives and attended events in Fayette and Decorah, including Mrs. P. Wolf and the family of Dr. H. H. Wolf, and funeral services for Atty. Strand attended by Mrs. Max Thoma and Mrs. Thos Knudtson.
Mr and Mrs Jud Conner visited Forest City last week to see relatives. Rev A W Winkleman and his two sons from Guthrie Center arrived Monday and stayed until Wednesday at the Karl Miller home.
