Pig crop for Town smaller than last year
A survey by a swine industry group shows the 1929 spring pig crop likely 6 percent below 1928. The drop stems from 4 percent fewer sows farrowing and a slightly smaller litter size, with Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin hit hardest by the lower hog prices from last fall to mid February. The study notes January and February hardship for brood sows may further reduce pigs saved per sow.
