Roads Legislation Faces Major Battle In Legislature
The Iowa general assembly will tackle road legislation as a major issue with split lines by north south and contesting levels. Speaker Gus Kuester names a large 45 member house roads committee with Carroll Brown as chairman and Penn Eckels as ranking member. Howard Hill of the Iowa Farm Bureau urges equal percentage increases for all road types. primary gains are opposed by farmers. Women take chair roles in the house and key men hold major posts on appropriations and judiciary. Bonus legislation seems unlikely to gain early priority as the appropriations panel slows action.
