Martin Splits U A W in Two in Detroit
Homer Martin suspended 15 of 24 executive board members, locking union headquarters and creating two factions. The Griswold building offices closed as the split produced two boards, potential dual conventions, and a frozen bank account amid a sharply divided membership. The photo shows ousted leaders and other board members in a downtown hotel.
