Fewer Iowa stores plus higher per store sales in 1948 58
Iowa saw a slight drop in the number of retail stores from 1948 to 1958 while average sales per store rose in several categories. Professor Konopa of Iowa State University notes that larger-volume stores expanded as total stores grew slowly, with state sales up modestly despite population and income changes.
